Answer

What do the officers do?

There are three full-time and three part-time officers in CIT Students’ Union.

The three Sabbatical Positions are:

  • President
  • Vice President Education
  • Vice President Welfare

The three Non-Sabbatical Positions are:

  • Entertainments Officer
  • Communications Officer
  • Projects Officer

President

The role of the President is to liase with college management on student issues and represent students’ views. The President will take students views on board, inform them of any changes within the college and work for students rights on a local, regional and national level. The President also communicates with local and national media on issues affecting students and the college. On a less formal note, the President deals with student issues, queries and problems, as well as encouraging student participation and involvement in any and all areas of activity surrounding CIT. The President plans out the year with the two Vice Presidents, scheduling Freshers’ Week, RAG Week, as well as all other entertainments. The Presidents door is always open to students.

Vice President Education

The role of the Vice President Education is to ensure that students are getting a good standard and quality of education. That their modules are being delivered properly, exams run fairly and to help students in their academic affairs wherever possible. The VP Education deals with all matters course and educationally related, as well as running a grinds database, and also help out with the running of the Students Union as a whole. The VP Education sits on many college boards with a view of ensuring that students can receive a high quality education at all times. The VP Education also encourages participation from class reps and the general student population.

Vice President Welfare

The role of the Vice President of Welfare spans a wide range. The VP Welfare looks after any and all student issues that are not academically related, ranging from accommodation to sexual health, mental health to stress relief. Along with this, the Welfare Officer sits on college boards with a view to ensuring that no additional strain is put on students and at no time are they disadvantaged. Often seen as the most open and bubbly of the three full time officers, the VP Welfare role is crucial as someone you can always ask for advice on anything.

Entertainments Officer

The Entertainments Officer has got arguably, the most challenging role of all the part-time officers. The Entertainments Officer is in charge of promoting and running entertainment events both on and off of campus. The most notable of these is often Freshers’ Week and RAG Week. The Entertainments Officer every year recruits an entertainments team who help him promote events, and in turn get many benefits. Like all part-time officers, the entertainments officer is a full time student who understands the wants and needs of students. If anyone wants to run an event, or even has an idea for an event, can contact the Entertainments Officer.

Communications Officer

The Communications Officer is charged with ensuring that any info the SU wants to send out to students is public, visible and heard. The Communications Officer also writes for the ExpliCIT magazine and recruits a team to contribute to this on an annual basis. Communication is vital as the SU cannot run efficiently without constant communication both ways between students and the SU Officers

Projects Officer

The Projects Officer is charged with a number of one-off projects each year. These projects can be big or small, with the intention of freeing up tie and resources for the other SU Officers. Also, the Projects Officer is often the Officer “on call” should the other officers need help. A vital resource to the working of the Union, and can be described as “The oil in the SU engine”
