March updates

29 February, 2016

Hi Guys,
We hope all is well and that the start of the semester is going well for you.

CIT RAG Week 2016

CIT Raise and Give (RAG) Week occurred from Monday the 8th – Friday 12th of February, 2016. The week-long fundraiser is the single biggest charitable initiative involving CIT students, which saw the Students’ Union, Clubs, Societies, staff and local residents alike come together to raise money for a number of charities. This year’s main beneficiary as selected by students and staff of CIT is Marymount Hospice. Marymount will receive 50% of all funds raised throughout the week.
We are delighted to announce that we raised a grand total of €14,000 (with further funds still expected). This is a truly amazing achievement, which you have all contributed towards.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the immense generosity and engagement shown by you the CIT Community. The week was an overall  huge success and that is by no small means down to students, staff and local residents alike.
The week itself consisted of a varied range of daytime and night-time events from A Staff, Students and Residents Coffee Morning, ‘Onesie Run’, Hypnotist Michael McCoy to Stevie Starr AKA The Regurjitator.
An essential ingredient of the week been a success was the involvement of our RAG Crew and CIT Societies, a special mention of thanks to you all.
The Students’ Union Team undertook stellar work prior to and during the week, one of our biggest projects of the year, this is to be commended and applauded. The Executive feel incredibly proud to be a part of such an energetic and dynamic team.
The conduct of CIT Students throughout the week was nothing short of exemplary, and was widely commented on by people internal and external to the Institute. The positive perception of the student body is of utmost importance to CIT SU, and we can safely say that this perception was maintained over the course of RAG Week, and indeed further enhanced.

Semester 2 – Clean Slate

Congratulations to all students on receiving your examination results on Thursday 5th February. Regardless, of what the results brought for any individual, good, not so good or indifferent, it’s done with now and there is absolutely no point getting down in the dumps over maybe not so good results or indeed getting too complacent for Semester 2 due to getting good results in Semester 1.
Semester 2 is a new chapter and brings with it new challenges and opportunities. The key is to remain focused on the modules you’re undertaking this semester and putting as much effort and work into them as possible. Failed exams in Semester 1? This is far from the end of the world. You will be given the opportunity to repeat these exams (in August in most cases) and upon passing them will be able to progress to the next stage of study.

SU Elections 2016

We strongly urge all students to come out and vote on polling day, Thursday 10th March. Have your say in who reresents you next year. The Students’ Union team would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone putting themselves forward for election to the Students’ Union Executive the very best of luck. It takes a lot of guts to put yourself forward, so regardless of the outcome of polling day on Thursday 10th March, always take pride in that. Should you wish to speak with the respective current office holder of the position your contesting please don’t hesitate to make contact with us.
All of us here in the Students’ Union would like to take this opportunity to wish all students well for Semester 2, may the next few months be enjoyable, productive and successful for you all.

All the very best,
Shane, John, Ruth, Dave,
Rebekah, Kate,
YOUR SU Executive
