CIT Energy - What can I do?

How can you help CIT?

Ireland has a National Energy Efficiency Action Plan to reduce energy consumption by 33% across the Public Sector by 2020.  Help the Campus achieve their 33% energy reduction target by conserving energy now in Cork Institute of Technology by the following energy savings tips:

ELECTRICITY:

  • Switch off electrical equipment when not in use.
  • Set up hibernation mode on your laptop/PC, rather than stand-by mode which continues to use 70% of normal power.
  • Switch off all lights when you are the last to leave a room / area.
  • Use daylight where possible. It is free and more pleasant than artificial light.

HEATING:

  • Keep windows closed while the heating is on.
  • Keep entrance and exit doors to the building closed.
  • Ensure all radiators are exposed to allow the heat to radiate throughout the room.
  • Report any factors which affect comfort levels such as draughty windows and doors.
  • A simple repair could save energy and improve user comfort.

WATER:

  • Do not leave taps running! Turn on and off as you need when brushing teeth and washing dishes.
  • Limit the time you spend in the shower to three songs max!
